Unethics in the Workplace

Unethics in the workplace is the most common issue which creates huge losses in the business industries. Employees may tempt to leave work early without completing the tasks, take credit for co-workers’ duty, lying to a potential client to get the insurance policy signed, etc are examples. The first step towards fostering strong business ethics in the organization is to create an ethics policy that states clearly what is acceptable and not acceptable behavior in the workplace.

Cheating the Organization

Cheating the organization includes any activity that is not beneficial for the business or slows down the business growth in the organization. A proper ethics policy which gives a silhouette of the procedure employees should follow if they want to take a leave off, or leave the work early or start the day late, etc. If the company has not put forward such measures, employees might handle these matters by themselves and that is not beneficial for the organization.

The management should ensure the ethics policy in the company has provision telling your employees how they can request day off for personal matters. Make open conversation with employees, it is always far better than watching them when they try to give reasons for late coming or not make their presence.

Client Interaction

Clients are considered to be the most well-treated people for the wellness of the business. The company ethics policy should make it clear that employees must treat the customers and clients honestly and politely. Lying to clients and giving them wrong information should be strictly prohibited. Employees should never hide the true value of the product or service and trick the customer to make them sign up. Promising them more than the company can deliver is also should be against company policy. Potential clients should be harassed by any employee by any means. The ethics policy should clearly mention when and how often can the employees can contact the clients and what can and cannot say during their conversation with the customers. Train your employees to respond to negative situations with active role-playing and training programs.

Abusive Behavior

The effective workplace policy should prohibit abusive behavior inside the work premises. It is not just for business growth, but it is the law. Many employers won’t give importance to adding this to their workplace policy. But this is one of the essential rules to be added in bold to prevent unwanted loss. Bullying colleagues, sexual harassment, offensive jokes, stealing from other employees, or the company are all come under abusive behavior. The ethics policy must state that all such actions are prohibited at work. The repercussions of such abusive behavior should also be mentioned in the policy to make clear that your organization is not the place to exhibit such actions. Platforms like TRST Score helps to provide ratings for employee behavior at the workplace and it is so effective to prevent such unethical behavior from happening in the organization. Since the rating provided by the employer is visible to all the other employers on the platform, the individual hesitates to do such negative actions.

Taking Credit for Others Work

Some individual is like parasites who grow feeding off on others effort. They might try to grow by taking credit for the job done by co-workers. It will affect morale if it goes unquestioned. The management should ensure that the organization’s ethics policy forbids this behavior of taking advantage of others' efforts. Consider seriously when an employee makes a complaint about his colleague for stealing his idea, proposals, or sales they achieved. Backstabbing behavior should not be accepted in any circumstances. Stimulate strong teams and aid them to understand the individual path to success and promotion. If the individual knows the way to success within the company, they are less bothered by other’s achievements.
